42nd Weak Arithmetics Days 42ème Journées sur les Arithmétiques Faibles

September 25–27, 2023, Karlovassi, Greece

Co-organized by the Department of Mathematics of the University of the Aegean
and
the Department of Philosophy and History of Science of the University of Athens

After negotiations between the organaziers and hotel management in Karlovassi, we have agreed on special prices for participants of JAF42 (and accompanying persons):

If you are interested in staying at one of these hotels, please let us know your dates of arrival and departure, as well as the kind of room you would prefer; the idea is that we will book your rooms, without any pre-payment required on your side, since there is a good chance that we will be able to cover a large part of the cost of your stay, depending on the total number of overnight stays and the finances of the meeting (we will send you details about this promise as soon as possible).

Of course, if you have already booked accommodation at a different hotel and prefer to stick to your booking, there is no problem (but we may not be able to contribute towards your bill).

We will provide free accommodation to all young researchers participating in the conference (please confirm your dates of arrival and departure).

Getting to Samos

When it comes to getting to Samos, you’ll have two options to choose from; by air or by ferry.

By Air

All flights to Samos arrive at the Aristarchos International Airport which is located approximately three miles from the town of Pythagorion (a well known village in Samos).

The Samos Airport is the only airport on the island and it caters to both domestic and international arrivals and departures.

Below, you’ll find a short list of airlines that fly to Samos:

By Sea

There are ferry services from Piraeus (the port of Athens) to Samos and back and the duration of the trip is about 9 hours. The company operating the ferries is Blue Star Ferries and the cost of an 1-way ticket is about 60,00 euros.

If you want, you can go to Samos by island- hopping. There are lines servicing Kavala and Patmos island to Samos all year round, but more frequently during the summer. The two islands Patmos and Samos have an overall distance of 33 nautical miles.

There are ferry services from Kusadasi (Turkey) to Samos, the duration of the trip is about 1 hour 30 minutes and the cost of an 1-way ticket is 36,00 euros.

You can use the www.ferryhopper search engine to find all available ferry routes.

How to get around the island

Rent a car/motorcycle

A good choice would be to rent a car to explore more places around the island of Samos. There are many secluded spots you can’t reach easily without your own car/motorcycle.

Avoid the fuss of transportation by booking your vehicle online.

There are some car rental search engines like Discover Cars

Take the public bus

The cheapest option to move around Samos is to hop on the public buses. There are daily routes to many destinations incuding the airport. You can visit the central stop in town or check their Facebook page for more information or their site.

Taxis/Private Transfers

It is an expensive option but may be needed to go places where the bus doesn’t reach or if the schedule isn’t convenient. Book a taxi in Samos from your hotel or find one in central spots such as the port, the airport, or Chora. You can find some phones using the following links samos-taxi or taxi drivers.
